Power Projects and Tariffs


The Maharashtra Electric Supply Corporation (MSEB) influences power tariffs in the city of Mumbai through the prices it charges for supplying power to BEST, BSES and their main supplier, the Tata Electricity Company (TEC). The tariff structure is controlled by central government and its agencies, which approve the rates at which MSEB buys power from primary producers.

The MSEB has a graded tariff structure, which is substantially lower for rural areas and agricultural users. In urban areas, domestic consumers are charged less per unit than commercial and industrial users. This tariff structure is passed on to consumers by utility companies like the BEST and BSES.
